Dough | Restaurant & Design

Function, flavour, feeling

This project saw the transformation of a former office space into a new location for Dough, one of Bath’s most celebrated pizzerias. Located just off Kingsmead Square, the brief was clear: to create a restaurant that didn’t just function well, but felt like Dough — honest, warm, and full of life.

It was a joy to work closely with the owners and chefs throughout the process, learning how they move through space, how their food is prepared, and how their team works best. That insight shaped every decision, from the zoning of the open kitchen and booth layout to the positioning of the bar and the marble pizza prep counter that anchors the room. Together, we created a space that responds directly to the way they cook, serve, and gather.

The architecture was shaped not around style for style’s sake but as a way to communicate Dough’s ethos: craftsmanship, generosity, and connection. Natural materials, efficient circulation, and clear spatial storytelling were all part of a language that supports both function and atmosphere. The new external seating area extends that experience into the square, drawing the energy of the city into the life of the restaurant.
