Castlerow, Weymouth Coastline

A home grounded in place, open to the view

Castlerow is a contemporary coastal home designed to be embedded in the sloping landscape above the Weymouth shoreline. Conceived as a bold yet refined replacement for an outdated dwelling, the new design steps down the hillside in three levels, gradually unfolding toward the client’s private beach. Terraces on each floor extend the living spaces outdoors, offering uninterrupted 180-degree views of the sea and coastline.

The vision for the home was one of future-focused luxury, defined by light, movement, and quiet elegance. At entrance level, a generous open-plan kitchen, dining, and day-sitting area sets the tone, anchored by a sculptural staircase and complemented by wide circulation spaces, a pantry, and a lift for full accessibility.

Below, the lower ground floor creates a more intimate setting with a relaxed living room, a minimal fireplace, a cinema, guest bedroom with en suite, and a compact bar, wine cellar, and full plant room.

The top floor accommodates three further bedrooms, each with its own en suite. The master suite is designed as a private sanctuary, complete with a pair of generous walk-in wardrobes, a sleek bathroom with a freestanding tub positioned in front of a full-height window, and a sea-facing terrace offering the most expansive views of the coastline.

The design is shaped by the challenges of the site. The steep gradient and ambition for wide, open spans required a carefully engineered concrete and steel structure. These constraints ultimately informed the character of the architecture, grounded and elemental, yet open and calm.
