Fable Hill, Longhope
Thoughtful living framed by the landscape
- Set within the remote landscape near Puzzlewood, Fable Hill is a carefully considered reconfiguration of the east wing of a country house nestled in one of Gloucestershire’s most tranquil corners. The project is shaped by a desire to enhance both the comfort and seclusion of the principal suite, while capturing the full beauty of the surrounding countryside.
The design introduces a new roof form and a glazed gable end, opening the space to the landscape and allowing the interior to be flooded with natural light. Internally, the master suite has been reimagined as a calm and generous sequence of rooms, including a large bedroom with a balcony overlooking the valley, a walk-in wardrobe, and a refined en suite with freestanding bath and uninterrupted views. Every element was positioned to make the most of the site’s dramatic setting and to reflect the quiet pace of life within it.
To support the function of the home, a dedicated laundry and linen store were integrated into the design, offering discreet utility and ease of access for staff without interrupting the spatial flow. A small wet bar and coffee point complete the suite, allowing it to operate as a self-contained retreat within the house.
Materiality and detailing were carefully selected to express a sense of stillness and warmth. The plan is minimal but complete, crafted for moments of rest, slow mornings, and views that shift gently with the seasons.
