A coastal home designed for light, life, and long summer days
- SeaBreeze is a new-build family home perched on the shoreline of Yaverland, where the sky feels wider, the sea is never far, and daily life drifts easily between indoors and out. Designed to replace two previously consented plots, the house is a calm, modern retreat shaped by the landscape and tailored to the quiet rhythms of family living.
From the outset, the design centred on connection; to one another, to the coast, and to the slow, grounding pace of the place. The ground floor holds the practical heart of the home, with four bedrooms, guest space, utility areas, and a lounge that doubles as a cinema and quiet retreat. Generous storage, a wet room for surf gear, and a focus on flow reflect the lived reality of a family who move through the world with energy and ease.
Upstairs, everything opens. A dramatic double-height hallway leads to the main living spaces including kitchen, dining, and lounge, all designed to feel bright, open, and relaxed. Glazed doors lead out to sea-facing terraces, offering panoramic views and the constant presence of salt air and shifting light. At the rear, the principal suite offers a sense of retreat with its own terrace, walk-in wardrobe, and bathroom tucked just far enough away.
The material palette draws gently from the island itself. Charred timber, pale cladding, galvanised steel, and softly reflective glass blend into the tones of the coastal setting. Planting is simple and considered, combining low hedges and hardy species that withstand the weather while softening the threshold between house and landscape.
SeaBreeze is a home that embraces its setting without demanding attention. It is a place for gathering, unwinding, growing up, and growing older. A space to return to after a swim, a storm, or a long day in the sun. A house where the seasons are felt, the views are framed, and life unfolds with quiet confidence.
